Genital Surgery Compensation Claims

Genital cosmetic surgery is one of the fastest growing cosmetic procedures in the UK. Genital plastic surgery is often used as a way to restore muscle tightness and tone to the vaginal area post pregnancy or to increase sexual gratification.

There many different types of genital cosmetic surgery, the most common procedures being:

  • Labiaplasty – This is one of the most common female genital procedures. This procedure involves removing sections of tissue from the labia to reduce the size.
  • Vaginal tightening – Also referred to as vaginoplasty or vaginal rejuvenation. The aim of this procedure is to strengthen the tissue of the vagina and is generally used to restore tissues torn during pregnancy to their pre-birth state.
  • Pubic liposuction – As women age or after childbirth the pubic area can become enlarged or may develop redundant skin. The aim of this procedure is to surgically remove the skin and fat to give a more smooth appearance.
  • Penis Enlargement - Surgery to increase the girth of the penis can involve injecting fat taken from elsewhere in the body into the penis. There’s a risk that the penis may look uneven or lumpy, and there may be scarring.

Genital Surgery Risks

With any genital surgical procedure there are risks. Sometimes poor management of these risks can give individuals potential grounds for a claim for compensation. Common risks include:

  • Nerve damage
  • Bleeding and haematoma
  • Scarring/abnormal scarring
  • Lumpy and uneven areas
  • Clitoral damage
  • Thrush and urinary infections

With all cosmetic surgery procedures there are risks. However, these risks should be managed and minimised. If problems arise because of poor management of these risks, you may have grounds to claim for compensation.

If you have suffered from any of the above issues or if you are suffering any other problems after undergoing genital surgery, contact our specialist team and they will be able to talk to you about your issues and discuss if you have a claim for compensation.

What can I claim for?

As well as claiming for any pain, suffering and inconvenience, you may be able to claim back additional costs such as:

  • Remedial surgery – if you have to have your surgery corrected, the additional cost involved could form part of the claim against the surgeon or company that carried out the original operation

  • Loss of income – if you need to take additional days off work or you are unable to go back to work due to the negligence of the surgeon or company carrying out the procedure, your loss of income will form part of your claim.
