Chemical Peel Compensation Claims

Whether it is due to a desire to look younger or to correct sun damaged or scarred skins the number of people undergoing chemical skin peels has rapidly risen in recent years.

A skin peel is a none surgical procedure used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

Chemical peels are broadly defined by the depth of damage in the skin that they produce. They are categorised as superficial, medium, and deep.

Superficial peels do not usually require anaesthetic. Clients are expected to feel  a burning sensation when the solution is applied. Deeper peels often require extensive local anaesthetic and sometimes a general anaesthetic. The peeling process begins with the application of an acetone or alcohol which is wiped over the area to be treated. The peeling solution is then applied for the appropriate time period and then halted by the application of a neutralizing solution. Bandages are then applied to the treated area and the customer is sent home with aftercare advice.

Common Risks & Side Effects

Side effects of chemical peels usually depend upon the depth of the peel.

Superficial Peels risks and side effects include:

  • Patches of brown and white skin on your face after treatment but this should only be temporary.
  • Reddening of the Skin
  • Burning
  • Blisters

Deep peel risks and side effects include:

  • Hypopigmentation (loss of pigment in the skin).
  • Scarring

With all cosmetic surgery procedures there are risks. However, these risks should be managed and minimised. If problems arise because of poor management of these risks, you may have grounds to claim for compensation.

If you have suffered from any of the above issues or if you are suffering any other problems after undergoing a chemical skin peel contact our specialist team and they will be able to talk to you about your issues and discuss if you have a claim for compensation.

What can I claim for?

As well as claiming for any pain, suffering and inconvenience, you may be able to claim back additional costs such as:

  • Remedial surgery – if you have to have your surgery corrected, the additional cost involved could form part of the claim against the surgeon or company that carried out the original operation

  • Loss of income – if you need to take additional days off work or you are unable to go back to work due to the negligence of the surgeon or company carrying out the procedure, your loss of income will form part of your claim.
